The legal and the regulatory frame-works in any country are usually by-products of that country’s social, political, and economic systems. The social system in Palestine is influenced to a large extent by Arab culture and traditions. However, since Palestine is not a sovereign state, it has legal, political, and economic structures rather than systems. These structures need many upgrades and transparency improvements, but the legal and political structures are democratically oriented and the economic structure is free-market oriented.
Palestinians still lack the needed experience along with some basic tools and means which are required to run a modern public sector in particular and a modern economy in general. Palestinian laws and regulations are greatly influenced by their Western counterparts. However, international investors should realize that even after getting full sovereignty Palestine won’t become a “pure” Western- style state simply because of its different heritage and different social system.
